I went out with Manchester TRF for the first time yesterday. I had never met anyone but emailed the site asking for information
and within a couple of days they had got back to me inviting me on a ride. We met in Marple where I was introduced to the other
riders and our guide for the day. It was good to see there are people that ride and not everyone uses vans or trailers.
Before we set off all the rules were explained for being courteous on the lanes and respecting others, again its great to see
that people are bothered to use manners on the roads as I was taught to. Don't get me wrong, where there are open areas some people
can really fly on these things, I've never seen riders as good !
I don't mind admitting the first half hour was the toughest i've ever done. I came off a few times and really thought I was out of my depth.
Eventually I got to the top of the first hill with everyone waiting, I apologised for holding them up as I then
needed some time to catch my breath. They all assured me not to worry as it happens to everyone the first time and told me to take it easy and
go at my own pace.
I was really dubious about carrying on but gave it a go and was really glad I did We did a good 8 hours trail ride and everyone was given the
option to call it a day at any time, after the shaky start I found my feet firmly on the foot pegs and couldn't get enough.
The green lanes we were on were unreal with fantastic views and some really challenging riding, I think most people had a fall off at some point
or other but ever body helped everyone where needed, no one got left to get dishartened.
We had several stops during the rides, some on the trails and some at the Pub (much needed) and if you are going out for the first time you really
do need a back pack with a water bottle in it. I will definately be going out again but not without but not before I get one of those.
The ride was fantastic, the people were great and I would recommend it to anyone. You don't have to be a great rider, people will always help you
out and are more than willing to give you little tips which help greatly. Thanks to all who went for a great day and I hope to be out with Manchester
TRF again soon.
