Lead Rider - GFoz
Group - John, Tony & Ian (Ozzie)
Date - Sunday 19th August 2007

I met the lads GFoz, John and Tony at Marple Bridge at 10am. I was given instructions to go at my own pace, the TRF riding rules and told to enjoy the ride. A back marker was placed behind me, not for if, but when I fell off!

It was 10am on a drizzly, cold and rainy day. The weather went by unnoticed due to the amount of concentration and enjoyment throughout the day. The ride is adapted to suit the individual's ability, with short breaks as and when required. These were often punctuated with lots of questions from the lads e.g. Was that section okay? Fancy something a bit tougher? Or even something a bit less challenging? The lads provided info along the way, pointing out any difficult bits and how to ride them and most importantly where the café was for the bacon butties!

We also had two pub stops during the day which Tony knew all too well! The days ride was really good. Lots of different terrain, uphill climbs, rocky descents, river crossings and a small amount of roadwork.

I had loads of fun and the lads were really helpful, easy to talk to and very knowledgeable.

Here are a few pointers:

  1. Tell them your skill level.
  2. Tell them what you like and dislike and what kind of day you want.
  3. Don't be shy, say if it is too hard or too easy.
  4. Tell them when you have had enough as those lads will ride all day & night!

I gave up at about 6.30pm and would like to thank everyone involved for a really fantastic day and I am now joining the Manchester TRF.

Cheers,

Ian Olive(AKA:Ozzie)
